- [Instructor ] I am often asked, how to take a list of addresses and turn it into a file or a bunch of locations on a map. If you only have the address, how do you do that? We have to use a Geocoder, but first let's look at this Excel sheet that I have listing coffeeShops. Now I don't have Excel installed on my desktop, but I do have FMI. So if I right click and say Open with Inspector, I can look at that Excel sheet. Let's go ahead and open it. And sure enough, I have got this Excel sheet with two columns inside the Excel sheet. One is called a COFFEE SHOP and the other column is called ADDRESS. So for example, here's the Starbucks and there's the address in Grande Prairie. I have about 15 of them and I only have two columns in this file but I want to turn it into something like a KML, so I can see these addresses on a map. To convert an address into point on a map you need a process called the Geocoder. Where you…
