- [Instructor] In this video, we're going to look at the FME workbench interface. When you first start, you have a Create Workspace dialogue box. You can hit new or generate or open a pre-existing one. If I hit new, I start with a blank template. The first thing you need to do when you start, is to add a reader. Now, to add a reader, you could click the reader button in the toolbar, or you can go under readers, add reader. We need a reader because this is how we read the source data, the data that we're going to translate. For example, I could translate a shape file and I could choose a shape file in the dropdown. Now I have thousands of formats, everything from DWG to XML. If I'm looking for a particular type, I can just type SHP and I'll get the shape file.
