DEM to GeoTIFF
- [Instructor] A DEM file or digital elevation file, was originally created by the US Geological Survey. The USGS made this DEM file to store 3D Elevations in a single file. These files are actually text files. If we open up the one that we have here, under exercise files, raster data with workbench, I'm just going to open it up with notepad. I'll right click, open with notepad. You'll see, it's basically just a big text file with X, Y and elevations in it. And it's in meters normally. This one happens to be in UTM zone, 11 meters. That's the zone it's in. If we want to look at that, what we'll do, is we'll flip over to the specter and open that up. Have a look at that DEM, browse to the raster data with workbench, pick on the GPU, TM 83 DEM, and it isn't UTM 83. So I'm going to browse and I'm just going to type UTM 83-11. There it is.
