What is Microsoft Exchange Server 2019?

- [Man] Microsoft Exchange Server 2019 is available, so let's talk about what it is and what it does. First and foremost, Exchange Server is an email server that allows you to send and receive email. You can use the web app, you can use Outlook or you can use your phone. It's also a way to make appointments and send invites, using the Calendar feature. And the calendar feature allows you to synchronize, just like email, your calendar appointments, no matter what device you're on. You can send and receive invitations and make calendar appointments for yourself anytime you need to be reminded. Exchange Server also comes with task lists, which is also known as your to-do list. And this is a great way for you to remind yourself to do things but not necessarily on a timed schedule, although it does have that feature. You can also send to-do lists to other people to have them take care of things. And when that to-do list is complete, you can cross things off the list and still save them, so you can see what tasks have been already accomplished. And it's a great way to use contacts. You can have the names, the phone, the email addresses, lots of different pieces of information can be filled into a contact list, including pictures as well. There's also a place for notes, in case you need to make notation about a phone call or some email that has come across. Let's talk in more detail about the email server. Sending and receiving email internally or externally has always been a part of our Exchange server. When you send internally, it never actually leaves the Exchange environment, it just goes from the computer, to the Exchange server, and back to the other computer, where it will be received. Exchange Server has many different types of clients. Of course you can use the PC, using Outlook or Web, this also works on Linux and MacOS, and your phone. It works on Android, iOS Apple as well as Windows phones and Blackberry phones. And a lot of people are using their tablet, which uses basically the same type of operating system as the phones, that's also available. And there are many other different operating systems that will work with the client piece of our Exchange server. With the calendar system, we can send and receive appointments, set reminders, as well as set up recurring appointments. Recurring appointments allows us to have an appointment that may reoccur over the course of days, weeks, months or years. One of the more popular types of reoccurring appointments would be birthdays, and there's even options to create a birthday calendar. For task lists we can set up our to-do lists, set deadlines and invite or assign to others. For contacts we can use it for business or personal contacts. We can set up and email groups as well, so we don't have to type in the individual name of every person, and we can sync with our mobile devices, so any email sent or received on one device, will also show up on any other device. There are other features as well, such as third-party add-ins, and there are dozens of them. For examples, there's XOBNI, which links to other CRM databases, Boomerang, Salesforce and others. We can also link Exchange to our phone server, now what I should note is that with Exchange Server 2019, there's no longer a license to link directly to phone systems, however you can have the phone systems take voicemails and forward them to your mailbox. There's also holidays, weather and Office integration into Outlook and Outlook web. You can choose to have holidays from your country show up and it will update each year. As far as weather goes, you can pick which city will show up in your Outlook web client or Outlook client, so you can see the weather at a glance. And as far as Office integration goes, you can copy and paste to and from Outlook to any other office product. Exchange Server has been around for more than 20 years and has evolved over the years. Many organizations utilize Exchange Server in their business or take advantage of Office 365, which allows you to rent an Exchange server and just pay per mailbox.
