Upgrading to Exchange Server 2019 requirements

- [Narrator] Let's review the upgrade requirements to Exchange Server 2019 from 2016. There are some prerequisites for the upgrade. We need to have at least a 2012 R2 domain and forest. We need to have Windows 2019 Server standard or Data Center. And in the beta version, you're able to use the 2016 version of Windows, but that's no longer the case in the final version. And you cannot install Exchange Server 2019 over previous versions of Exchange. We also have some software requirements just as if we were installing Exchange Server 2019 without doing the upgrade. We need to make sure we install the Server Media Foundation feature. Install the MS Unified Communications application. And this is of note because Unified Communications is no longer supported on Exchange Server 2019, but we still have to install this application. And Microsoft Visual C plus plus. As well as we need the Exchange DVD or ISO. There's going to be some additional needs such as a public certificate if you don't already have one for your 2016 server. We need, of course, the Exchange license purchased from Microsoft or a Microsoft dealer. And we can choose either the Standard or the Enterprise version of Exchange Server 2019. If you go with the Enterprise version, there's also requirements for additional costs when it comes to the client access licenses. And what you can do with Enterprise over Standard are things like journaling on an individual basis as well as special archiving and compliance rules that don't come with the Standard version. Having all the prerequisites for a upgrade will make your upgrade a smooth installation.
