Exchange 2019 Edge and Mailbox roles

- [Instructor] In previous versions of Microsoft Exchange Server, the server had as many as five server roles. But in 2019 there's just two, the mailbox and edge roles. They didn't remove any functionality, they just combined the roles into two. Mailbox servers contain the transport services that are used to route email, and they contain mailbox databases that process, render and store data. Client access services accept client connections for all protocols, and they're also on the mailbox role server. These front end services are responsible for routing or proxying connections to the corresponding back end services. Edge transport servers handle all external mail flow for the Exchange organization. They are typically installed in the perimeter network, and are subscribed to the internal Exchange organization.
