- [Voiceover] The Edge Transport role is for an Exchange Server that sits in a DMZ that protects direct access to an Exchange Server from the outside world. What this means is when an email comes into an organization, it goes to the firewall, then it goes to the Edge Transport Exchange Server, then back to the firewall, and then inside to the email server. That role is the role we're going to install in this video. First we have to install the prerequisites, and those are gonna be the same prerequisites that we installed for the regular Exchange mailbox role we did in a previous video. Let's start by double clicking on setup. The Edge Transport does not use Active Directory. Instead it uses the Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services or ADLDS Windows feature to store the configuration and recipient information. You can choose whether or not have your server that runs the Edge Transport role to be a part of the Active Directory domain and make it a member or not. If you do…
