- When you work with column charts…arc charts, line charts, and area charts,…gridlines are an important chart element to keep in mind…and in some cases, even change.…We're talking mostly about horizontal gridlines,…like we see in this chart to the right of the data here,…on this sheet called YearData.…Now, from my perspective,…these look good but if I make the chart taller…or maybe I'm thinking of how this might look on the screen,…maybe there is some concern about reading those columns.…Let's consider some other options.…
So with the chart selected,…we can go to the Chart Layout tab in the ribbon,…Gridelines, in this case, Horizontal Gridlines.…Right now, we're seeing in the background major gridlines.…Look what happens when I choose Minor Gridlines.…We've got more lines there…and there's no differentiation…between the major ones and the minor ones.…If you slide the mouse over here…and carefully, you will see different points…and you might not be able to read that so clearly…but that refers to minor gridlines…
