- [Instructor] When you work with many different chart types in Excel, but particularly with column charts and line charts, you're likely to see gridlines automatically. We see them on this chart right here, just to the right of the data, on the worksheet called Year Data in our Chapter 3 file. We don't necessarily need to have gridlines, but it certainly makes sense in many cases. When a chart is selected, and you go to the chart design tab, some of the chart style options do not include gridlines. If the numbers were lower here and the intervals in those lines were less, we possibly will say, and I probably wouldn't, you might in some cases, not show gridlines at all. We certainly have that option. First of all, in addition to choosing, on the chart design tab, the various styles here, we could instead start by choosing quick layout.
