What is AI?
- [Narrator] What is AI? You've probably heard the term but what exactly does that mean? Well, AI, or artificial intelligence, is an area in the computer science field and it's focused on automating intelligent behavior. Which, of course, begs the question, "What is intelligence, exactly?" Well, we don't have a precise definition but certainly any kind of artificial intelligence has to have flexible responses rather than mechanical behavior, right? AI needs to be able to adapt to different circumstances or in any kind of ambiguous or contradictory messages. This is certainly true when we think about interacting with people. Oftentimes, language contains a lot of nuances. Well, AI needs to be able to deal with that. Similarly, when we think about applications like self-driving cars, we've got to know when to change lanes versus when to stay in a lane. So there's a lot of nuance to AI.
