Welcome

- [Curt] Hi, I'm Curt Frye. Welcome to the course. In this course, I'll show you how to use Excel to perform statistical process control. I'll start with a review of the normal distribution, the so called Bell Curve, and how to interpret its results. Next, I'll show you how to analyze the proportion of defective units in the series of samples, creating a chart to summarize your data visually. After that, I'll describe how to visualize data where you count defects. As with proportion data, you can summarize your counts using statistical process control charts. Then, I'll describe charts for summarizing variable data for values such as temperature. Finally, I'll show you how to calculate the process capability ratio which indicates whether a process is potentially capable of meeting customer needs and the process capability index which indicates whether the process is actually meeting those needs. I have created a series of exercise files which you can download from the course site.
