- [Instructor] Excel has a series…of different keystroke shortcuts that allow us…to apply different kinds of number formats.…There's seven of them.…And we use the keys all along the top of the keyboard…just below the function keys, here,…we see them depicted on the screen…with two symbols that are on each key.…If you happen to see these on a book, as a shortcut,…they might be listed in one of two ways.…So, for example, if you were trying to apply…a date format, we haven't seen that yet,…it's referred to, sometimes, as Ctrl + Shift + 3,…sometimes referred to as Ctrl + Shift + Pound Sign, Hashtag,…but it's the same key, in all cases here.…
The key to the left of the number one key…doesn't have a standard name.…A lot of people call this 'tilde',…but this is for applying Ctrl + Shift + Tilde,…Ctrl + Shift + Accent, however you want to say it,…it's for applying general format,…and usually we are not applying general format,…we're moving away from it.…General format is the native format in Excel.…We typically don't change numbers into that format,…
