Learn how to use special date functions: TODAY, NOW, YEARFRAC, and DATEDIF.
- [Instructor] Excel has about 25 different date … and time functions and if you're dealing … with data that changes and you have … to have that data up-to-date, … you want to be familiar with the TODAY function … and the NOW function. … First of all, anytime you want to put in … the current date simply as a static entry, … I'm about to do this in cell A2, … use the key stroke shortcut CTRL + semicolon. … That will not change unless you change the entry. … If you want to put in today's date … so that it's always up-to-date, … in other words it's viewing your system clock … and it will change as you work with the data … as you open and close the file, … use the function called TODAY, =today. … Like all functions it's followed by parenthesis, … but if you're simply typing it as a single entry, … put in just the left paren and enter. … And for the moment these are identical. … But if I close this file and open it tomorrow, … and this is the current day as I'm doing this recording, … I will see 2/28/2020, it always adjusts as you open the file …
