Learn how to use a nested IF function. Author Jen McBee demonstrates how to create a formula using the IF function, in conjunction with VLOOKUP.
- [Narrator] As you know, the IF function allows you to…make a logical comparison between a value…and what you expect by testing for a condition…and returning a result of true or false.…In this video, we're going to create a nested IF function…that will nest a VLOOKUP function in our IF function.…Let's take a look at our 0401 nested IF document.…This sheet contains the sales for 2017,…and we see for each of our sales people…their actual sales, their goal,…and over in cells F, G, and H we see the sales goals,…the level that they can achieve,…and the commission that they will earn.…
We'll create an IF statement that will look…at the sales and the goal,…and if the sales are greater than or equal to the goal,…it will step into the VLOOKUP function.…In VLOOKUP, we'll look at the sales goal…and come over to column F and find that goal,…and return the commission rate.…We'll then take that commission rate…and multiply it times their 2017 sales in column C.…Now, if their sales is not greater than or equal to…the goal, we'll have the formula stop right there…
