Sorting data in random order
- [Voiceover] On this worksheet called random sort, we've got a list of transactions. The list looks like it's sorted descending order by amount. We might want to, occasionally, just do some quality control here, in sort of a primitive way. We've got about 900 records here and every so often, we want to review, just 10 of them or so, to see if everything has been handled properly. Is the information correct? We have everything correct in those 10 entries, in those 10 rows, let's say. How do we pick 10 of them at random? Either add a new column to the right or in this case, we've got an empty column, we can use column H out here. Use the function =RAND, this is a mathematical function, there's a companion called RANDBETWEEN, if we want to generate random numbers between two amounts. We simply want to use RAND. If you type =RAND, left parenthesis, that's all you need to do, press enter. It simply enters a number between zero and one, a random number. To copy this down the column, we'll…
