To quickly select all cells which, if altered, can change the content of the active cell, press Ctrl+Shift+[. This feature does not trace precedent cells (if they exist) on other worksheets or other open workbooks. To see those, use the Trace Precedents button in the Formula Auditing group on the Formulas tab in the ribbon.
