- [Instructor] Understanding and applying ratios in a business context is a common management accounting task. Ratios are primarily useful when compared to benchmarks, competitors, or even the firms own past performance. But, in order to get to that stage, we need consolidated financials for the firm first. I'm in the 04 01 Begin Ratios Excel file. So we have here are the income statement and the balance sheet for a generic firm. Now, all of the figures shown here are in millions of dollars, and we've consolidated many of the income statement items removing rows where needed, et cetera, and done the same thing with the balance sheet. So we see that the firm has a projection for the year ending 2018, and they have the actual numbers they earned for the year ending 2017. Sales revenue was about $120 billion. They're projecting 164 billion at the end of 2018. Down below, we have the assets, and the liabilities, and shareholder's equity for this firm. In general, the firm looks like it's…
