- [Instructor] Let's talk about how to reference your data and formulas using structured references. When you convert a range of data to a table format, Excel names the table and assigns a range name to the data in each column. When we create formulas in a table, Excel automatically uses structured references. In this video, I'll demonstrate how to create a formula with a structured reference both on the same worksheet where the data is located and on a different worksheet. These are skills you might be asked to demonstrate during the Excel 2016 MOS Expert Exam. I have the 02_03 exercise file open, so let's get started. We're going to focus on our payroll worksheet. You can see that the data's already been converted to a table. Looking up at the Table Tools Design tab, I can see that the table name is still the default name, "Table1". That's how it names them.
