- [Instructor] So far in this course, we have looked at process data in terms of actual performance. You can also examine processes from the customer's perspective. Process capability analysis examines variable data in terms of the voice of the customer and the voice of the process. The voice of the customer is the customer's requirements. For example, if you expect to receive your food at a restaurant and no more than 20 minutes after your order, then that is one type of customer requirement. The voice of the process is the process' capability. So you can think of it as a reply. When the customer sets certain requirements and the process responds through empirical data as to whether it can fulfill that request or not. You can then compare the voice of the customer with the voice of the process to determine if the needs are being met, and that's where you have your process capability calculations.
