When you need to update a range of cell based on an incremental value (by addition or multiplication) or a decremental value (by subtraction or division), first copy the value and then select the cells to be altered. Then activate the Paste Special dialog box and select Add, Subtract, Multiply, or Divide and press OK.
- [Voiceover] Sometimes you can perform calculations…without writing formulas.…On this worksheet called State Totals,…we've got some numbers over on the left-hand side…for our seven largest states…and you're looking at these numbers…and recognize that something's a little bit off.…And you refer to a couple of sources…and you realize, whoever transcribed these…or entered these, all the numbers are off by five.…You wanna make them all bigger by 5.…So how could we approach this?…One approach would be to highlight…a range of the same size, maybe down here,…and write a formula copied into all of these cells…that would add five to these numbers.…
Then we could take those results…and Copy-Paste them back up here.…But we can do that a lot faster.…Go to an empty cell nearby,…put in the value that we want to add by,…the incremental value is gonna be five.…And let's simply Copy that. Ctrl + C,…right-click Copy, either way.…And then select the data that we want to change.…And we want to go to Paste Special.…You might've seen in an earlier movie,…
