- [Narrator] Let's talk about two basic functions in Excel where you can look up data either vertically or horizontally. Vertical and horizontal lookup have been used in Excel for years, and it may not be your first choice or your go to, but you may come across a question on the exam that asks you to use a lookup function to find a particular result. So, we're going to take a look at both VLOOKUP and HLOOKUP. Here is our LOOKUP workbook. And we'll start with the HLOOKUP. So remember, this is a horizontal lookup, which means Excel is looking horizontally at the information. If we want to find the sales for B&B Spaces, we will begin by typing HLOOKUP, we'll Tab to step into that. Now, if you find it easier to work in the Function window, you can always click the fx button to the left of the formula bar and come right in and enter your arguments here.
