Discovering duplicate rows in a large list, particularly if the list has been created by gathering data from different sources, is not uncommon. Eliminate the duplicate entries (rows within the selection) by selecting the data and using the Remove Duplicates command found on the Data tab in the ribbon.
- [Voiceover] We're looking at a worksheet here…called HR list with duplicates…and it points out a problem that we…sometimes have as we work with lists…and particularly if you're gathering data…from different sources sometimes inadvertently…you copy a record that's already there…and often if we simply sort the data…we're likely to see these.…This list here appears to be sorted.…If you sort by last name that's usually better.…I'm gonna click in column A…and then on the data tab click A Z.…We see two David Adams there.…That's a duplicate all the way across.…But of course we could have situations…where two people might have the same name…but they really are different people.…
But in this case we see what's happening…and we probably want to get rid of that.…But there is an efficient way to do it.…But before doing it, let's consider another option.…Maybe if it's a big list, you don't want to go…scrolling through it necessarily but you might…want to highlight the data differently.…We could try this in column A.…Probably it would work better in column D…
