Generate random numbers
- [Voiceover] You can generate a set of random numbers quickly and easily in Excel, and sometimes you might be doing that simply to create some sample data, and other times, you can actually use it creatively to sort data in a random order. Maybe you have a list of transactions, or in this example here, a HR kind of list. You simply want to randomize the order, maybe pull a few of these and review them, make sure you've got them correct, and maybe you're saying in effect that's a pretty good test of how well we're handling the information here. So if you'd like to sort a list in random order, it could be any list of course, on the right side of it, just add another column. You don't really have to have a heading, but it's not a bad idea to just put in a dummy heading. Sometimes when you sort data, if Excel sees a missing label, it does not sense that that top row is a header row. So put something up there, and then in the first cell just to the right of your data, type in the function…
