- [Instructor] The CHOOSE function in Excel is different than most of the other LOOKUP functions in that it does not require an external table. On this worksheet called CHOOSE, we've got some dates in column A and we're going to be calculating the quarter. And certainly one way to do this is not using the CHOOSE function at all, or even any LOOKUP function. It's by way of a formula. In cell B2, now I'll put a space in front of that equal sign and just leave it there. We're simply using the fact that we can extract the month from that date. This function right here simply will give us in the example here, the value 12. And so that's totally acceptable in some environments. A different way to do this is using the INT function.
