Join Dennis Taylor for an in-depth discussion in this video Extracting information with the CELL and INFO functions, part of Excel 2016: Advanced Formulas and Functions.
- Excel has a category of functions…called Information functions.…On the Formulas tab you don't see that category at first.…It's under the heading More Functions.…Here we are, Information functions.…The CELL function, the INFO function,…not heavily used might have some interest for you.…In this worksheet here it's called CELL-INFO.…We might want to have the file name here.…The question might come up,…well why do I want to see the file name?…Don't I know which file I'm working with?…Well I might want to do this in many…of the files that I have open.…
Maybe I often have five or six files open.…It's always handy to know which file I have open…and also remind myself.…We could also possibly use this information in formulas.…Equal cell, left parenthesis.…Here are the kinds of things we might look for.…For more depth on what each of these means…in going to the help system and explore this a little bit.…I'm going to choose Filename right here,…Tab it into place and press Enter.…And it simply shows me the name of the file I have open…
