- [Instructor] In the world of corporate finance and in particular, when we're using business analytics in corporate finance, one of the most useful tools that's out there are what are called variances, or sometimes accounting variances. I'm in the zero four, zero one begin Excel spreadsheet. Now what we've got here is a set of hypothetical data for a company that's frankly struggling as we'll see it in just a moment. But basically the company has gone through and gathered data on how they perform financially throughout 2017 versus how they expected to perform, what was their plan or their budget going into the year. And we've got this for both the market as a whole as well as for the financial statements for the firm. Simplified income statement balance sheet et cetera.
