- [Narrator] Excel has a number of short cuts…for filling in date type entries.…In this worksheet called Autofill in our Chapter 5 file…you see J-a-n, short for January, in cell A2.…If we point to the lower right hand corner of this cell,…it's called the fill handle,…the mouse pointer changes to a plus.…So I click and drag downward,…you see a little tip on the right hand side.…The suggests I'll be putting in subsequent months.…I can drag this as far as I want.…If I drag a bit too far…we simply start over.…We can start with any month…and if we drag downward or rightward…the same sort of thing will happen.…
Dragging rightward here.…Rarely but occasionally…you might drag upward.…Here we go, backward in time.…And if we drag leftward here…same general idea.…I'll get rid of these.…May, by the way, is an abbreviation and the full spelling.…If you start with May, and that's unlikely,…but you could,…you will get full spellings.…There's nothing wrong with that…but if needed the three letters…start with a monthly abbreviation…
