- [Instructor] Alright let's talk hierarchies, now hierarchies are groups of nested columns that reflect multiple levels of granularity. And the easiest way to describe this is with an example a really common one is a geography hierarchy and that could include levels starting at country, down to state, and then city, so they're progressively more granular. Another example with product data might include something like the product category, the product brand, and the product name. So each hierarchy is actually treated like a single item in pivot tables and pivot charts once you've created it in the data model and that allows users to easily drill up and drill down through those different levels of the hierarchy depending on how you define them. So it'll create a new grouped item representing the hierarchy that way you can always access the individual fields as well.
