- Let's discuss data governance, which may or may not exist at your organization. I think it's important to understand governance because it helps keep us safe and all in check. Data governance ensures the integrity of the data entered by people and by automation. You may find that there's already a living, breathing data governance control working alive and well in your organization. I think it would be awesome if everywhere I worked with people on data that they had a grasp on this. Remember, it protects all involved to have a data governance plan.
You find it in heavy-regulated industry, but let's face it. Not every company is heavily regulated. If you find yourself in a regulated industry as an analyst, and every time you turn around, you're faced with more information on regulations, policies and procedures, I can personally tell you you should embrace it. Ultimately, it protects you. Remember, you may not be responsible for establishing the data governance plan inside your organization, but what you discover in your role as an analyst might certainly impact it.
