- [Instructor] Excel pivot tables, which let you summarize data dynamically, offer great flexibility in managing your organization's data. And that's perfect for balanced scorecard analysis. In this movie I will show you how to create a pivot table from an external data source that will fit into a single worksheet. My sample file is 03 01 External Data. And that's an Excel workbook you can find in the exercise files folder. This is a blank workbook. And what I want to do is create a link to an external workbook. That workbook is also in the exercise files folder. To create the link, I will go to the insert tab on the ribbon. And then click pivot table. And the create pivot table dialogue box appears. Now, rather than using a table or range in the active workbook, I want to use an external data source. So I will select the use an external data source radio button. And click choose connection.
