- [Instructor] There are a few different features in Excel…that use the word unique,…but they don't always give us everything we need.…Here's a quick look at one of them.…As I select column F here, conditional formatting.…We can highlight the cells that are duplicates.…And if you choose this,…and you wouldn't exactly expect this,…you'll see another option by clicking the down over here…called Unique.…I'm not going to be using it here,…but recognize the need for that in some occasions.…So I'll simply cancel out of here.…Escape.…You'll also encounter this if you use…what's called the advanced filter…on the data tab off to the right.…
Here too, I will not proceed with the command,…but we have a choice here called Unique records only.…But what we might want in a worksheet like this is…how many unique department names do we have here?…Now we could be using the advanced filter…and create a new list there, but how a count.…This is not easily done.…And I keep waiting for a function called unique…that would do this for us, but it's not available.…
