Multiple users of the same file can have control over different specific portions of the file. In this video, learn how to assign different passwords to different ranges within the same workbook.
- [Narrator] Excel has a number … of different protection schemes … and you'll find a number of them on the Review tab … in the protect group … and one of these not so well known is called … Allow Edit Ranges. … We can actually allow different users … to have passwords to get them into certain columns … but not other columns, … and doesn't necessarily have to be columns … but any range. … Imagine a scenario where different people are allowed … to work with this workbook. … Some of them will be allowed to make changes in column G. … Maybe some others might be allowed to make changes … in column H, and maybe some people in both. … The idea is we can give a password to ranges, … and then when we protect the sheet … from that point onward, … only those users who know those passwords can make changes … in those specific areas. … Let's start with the idea, too, that we want … to allow anybody using this to make changes … in columns A through E, … but not in column F 'cause it's got formulas in it …
