Join Robin Hunt for an in-depth discussion in this video Common formulas for data mining in Excel, part of Building Solutions Using Excel 2013 and Access 2013 Together.
Let's take a minute to talk about…commonly used formulas for people…who do data mining.…These formulas are often used to create…data we don't have already,…or change the way data works for us…or looks for us when we need it for reports.…Navigate to your exercise files,…and let's start with the import file.…Go ahead and click on I1.…I want to talk about upper(), lower(),…and proper().…You've probably noticed that the last name…is in all upper case.…
We might want to convert all the first names…to upper case, so we'll start with upper().…I'll press Enter, I'll type "=", I'll start to type…"upper", when I see "UPPER" pop in the list,…I can press Tab, and then I can choose the First Name.…I'll close my parentheses to complete the syntax,…and press Enter.…Now I notice that "Noah" is all upper case.…I'll click back on that and…double-click the autofill handle.…
Sometimes we might want to convert things…to be all lower case.…So I'll type "lower" in J1, and in J2…I'll start my formula: "=lower".…I'll choose the Last Name, close my parentheses,…
