- [Instructor] So far in this chapter, I have worked with pivot tables to which I've not applied any number formatting and I haven't changed the summary operation or display. In this movie, I will show you how to work with the values that are displayed in the values area of your pivot table. My sample file is Project Analysis 0405. It's an excel workbook that you can find in the chapter four folder of your exercise files collection. The data that I've displayed here is the actual labor data for a series of four projects broken down by year and by quarter. The values in the body of the pivot table are kind of hard to read. They don't have any commas to designate thousands and they also don't have any currency symbols to indicate that they're dollars. You might know that from the context of the pivot table itself, but to an outside observer, it's not readily apparent.
