Join Dennis Taylor for an in-depth discussion in this video Adding floating text and text boxes, part of Excel 2013: Charts in Depth.
You can add text to a chart put it practically anywhere you want.…In this chart to the right of the data here I'm going to make it larger we might…want to put in a note. Not with an arrow this time but possibly…just by using a box. Put it near some of the data here.…How do we put in the text first of all? On the Insert tab, you can go there and…you do see choices here under this icon, Recently Used Shapes.…There's a text box icon right there. But if we are working with the charts,…perhaps a little more logical is to go to the Format tab and Insert shapes off to…the left there. There's that text box icon, now it does…say Text Box. But if you want to type some text, click…somewhere, recognize there's that box. But what if we simply want to say for…example, there's an unusually high number here in August we didn't expect.…
Let's say, look at August or something, exclamation point.…If we click outside of that, it doesn't have to have a box with it.…In other words, if we click back, we move the box.…We might even resize the box but It's not there when we don't click on it.…
