Single- and multiple-level subtotals
- [Instructor] In this worksheet called Subtotals, we're seeing row after row of data here. The data appears not to be sorted. What we'd like to be able to come up with is some kind of totalling based on Department. The Subtotal feature, and it's found on the Data tab in the ribbon, off to the right in the Outline group, absolutely is dependent upon the idea that the data has to be in some sensible order. The way the Subtotal feature works is based on how we've sorted the data, we are going to introduce new rows within the data that will subtotal the information every time there's a breakpoint. Now we might want to sort the data by Status, by Building, by Department, almost any of the columns except for Employee Name, because every time there's a change within a column we will be seeing a new subtotal row. So let's say that we might want to introduce subtotals here by Department. We also have the ability to have multiple layers of subtotals. Maybe within each department we want to…
