Use the ROUND function to change the result of a formula or reference by rounding it to the nearest number of positions to the right of the decimal (a positive number) or to the left of the decimal (a negative number). Use ROUNDUP and ROUNDDOWN to round up (or down) to the next (not the nearest) value.
- [Voiceover] In the workbook 08-Math,…the first sheet is called Basic Rounding.…Rounding is an important feature in Excel…but it is often overlooked or misinterpreted.…In this worksheet, there is a formula in cell E2.…We're going to have a price increase based on the item in D2…We come up with an answer of nine dollars.…Now, just to test this out a little bit,…in cell F2, I'm going to write a formula…equal this amount times the number we see above it,…10,000 and you know immediately the answer should be…90,000, but its not 90,000 and somebody has to account…for this what, 43 dollars and 14 cents here.…
What's happening here?…Well as it turns out,…apparently that's not really nine dollars.…We can see clearly that's 10,000,…double click there, and well that's what we see…and here too, we'll double click but…we see a formula but what we're not seeing here…and sometimes you want to be careful about formulas…particularly if you're talking about pennies…and sometimes even dollars.…Is this truly the result the result of that function?…
