The TREND and GROWTH functions are array functions that create series of values based on regression techniques. TREND produces a straight line if depicted in a chart and GROWTH produces an exponential line, typically curved. Highlight multiple cells before entering these functions. Press Ctrl+Shift+Enter.
- [Voiceover] In this worksheet called trend,…we see some data in columns A and B,…potentially some data in columns C and D.…We've got a chart to the right.…As I click on the chart,…you can see that it is prepared to pick up data…in columns C and D.…We've got sales data here,…as I scroll down,…beginning in January 2014 all the way through June 2016.…Now, you may or may not be familiar with the concept…called a trend line.…On a chart,…it could be a column chart, line chart,…a few other types as well.…If you right click, this case the line,…an options called add trendline.…
And what Excel adds is what's called…a linear trendline.…Now,…possibly what we might want to show here,…with the same line,…is the actual numbers that comprise this line.…And we can do that with the trend function.…We're about to do this in column C.…So we don't necessarily need to use this,…but this alerts us to the idea.…A linear line is analogous to the function called trend.…It's an array function.…Now, another kind of function is called exponential.…
