- Here's a very common scenario. You receive an email full of information and it's information you want to keep. Now, the old way of doing things would be to keep that email, making it easily accessible, maybe in a folder, for example, but if you're gonna be using Evernote for everything, why not send that email directly to an Evernote notebook? We can do that because when you sign up for Evernote, you were given a specific Evernote email address. And we're gonna find out what that is before we start sending emails to Evernote in this movie.
Here on the Mac, we need to go to the Evernote menu to access our Account Info. On a Windows PC, you'll be going up to the Tools menu. From here, I can see Email notes to and then, there it is, my email address. This is the email address that was given to me automatically when I signed up, and you can see it's a little bit difficult to remember, it's quite long, so, lucky for me here on the Mac, there's an Add to Address Book button that will automatically add it to my Address Book if I'm using the default email program here on the Mac.
If you're on a Windows PC, it's a little bit different, you might want to click and drag over the content here to select it, right-click it and Copy it. That way you can paste it into your Contacts and that goes for any email application you might be using. If I'm not using the default mail app here on the Mac, that's what I need to do. Select it, right-click and copy it. Now I know what it is, so I'm gonna close this up, and I'm gonna switch to my email program, and as you can see, I'm actually using Gmail and there's an email I've received from this person, Karen Leslie, about Movies, that looks like a list of recommended movies.
How many times has someone recommended a movie to you and you couldn't remember it when it was time to maybe rent a movie? So this is something I want to keep and I want to keep it in a personal folder. So all I'm going to do is forward it to my Evernote account. Find the Forward button in your mail app, starts a new message down below, and I'm gonna paste in what I copied. That's my Evernote email address. And from here, I might want to do things like add it to my contacts, remember, that's the best option, give it a name like your own name @evernote, for example, so it's easy to send things directly to Evernote going forward without having to do the copy and paste.
Right down below there's some information I don't need to include, all of this header information, even the salutation, I'm gonna click and drag over that, press my Delete key to remove it, and that's what I'm going to keep. All I have to do now is click Send and off it goes to Evernote. So I'm going to switch back to Evernote now. I can wait for a sync or I can do a manual sync up here by clicking the Sync button. And, where does it go? Of course it goes to your default notebook, mine, as I click the drop-down here at the top of the snippet list is called Inbox.
And sure enough, when I sync up my Inbox, I'm gonna see that email once it's been sent from my email program. So I need to be sure that it's been sent. I can keep hitting this, eventually I'm gonna find it, there it is, it all depends on the email application that it's being sent from. So when I select it, that's the information I wanna keep. I could keep it here in my Inbox or I could put it into a new Notebook called Personal. That's what I'm gonna do by going to my Notebooks. In my Personal Stack, I don't see one called Personal, just my Trip to California, so I'm going to create a new Notebook by right-clicking and choosing New Notebook.
And I'm gonna call this Personal and press Enter to lock it in and I'm going to move it into my Personal stack, there we go. Let's go back to Notes now, and this one's ready to be moved to that new folder or notebook, I'm gonna right-click, choose Move Notebook and choose my Personal notebook by clicking Move, there we go. I'm going to go back up to the drop-down now, see if it's in there in my Personal notebook, sure enough there it is. Now going forward, we will be talking about search functionality here in Evernote.
Time to rent a movie, do a little search for movies, you'll come right to this note and see of the list of movies that was recommended by the person who sent you the email. Let's go back up to the drop-down and we'll choose All Notes to view all of our notes here in Evernote as we move forward.
