Join Jess Stratton for an in-depth discussion in this video Creating an Etsy account, part of Selling on Etsy.
Whether you're going to sell your wares on Etsy or just shop until you drop, you first have to create an account if you plan on buying or selling anything. You don't need an account to browse. You only need just one account, and you can buy and sell with that same account. And finally, if you just want to buy on Etsy, you certainly don't need to set up a shop at all. To create an account, first go to Etsy.com and click Sign In, in the top right hand side. From the Sign In tab, click Register on the left. You can either sign up using your Facebook account or create a separate account by first putting in a user name and a password.
The Username field is going to be key for your Etsy shop. I want this user name to be consistent and related to my shop. So, I'm going to give it the same name that I plan on calling my shop when I set it up. In this case, I'm going to be setting up to sell jewelry under the name Jac Jewels. Now I happen to know for a fact that JacJewels is already taken on Etsy as a user name, so I'll call it JacJewelsJStratton. This way, I can be consistent as this will be a business. So one day I might want a Twitter account and a Facebook page too, and I can use this user name across all of those sites.
Etsy changes their interface frequently. So don't be alarmed if what you're seeing doesn't line up exactly with what you see here. As long as you fill out the fields that are required by Etsy you should be all set. Click the blue Register button, and now I've created an account but it's still unconfirmed. The last step is to go into your email address. Look for the email that came from Etsy. And click the confirmation button. Now you're all set and ready to go to start buying and selling on Etsy.
