- Technology companies all over the world have begun hiring a new type of position, user experience designers, who focus on refining products in ways to improve the user's or the human's experience with the technology. Have you ever purchased a consumer electronic device, struggled to open the packaging, then after finally releasing the death grip that that plastic packaging had on your new device, discovered that it was shipped with no batteries, requiring another trip to the store before you're able to use that cool new device? From the company's perspective, these choices may make sense. Protect the product from theft, reduce production costs, reduce shipping weight. However, from your point of view, this is not a great experience for the human using the technology. When designing your course materials, keep this scenario in mind. Think about how your students will experience the materials you create or use within your course. A typical course syllabus may look something like this.…
