Creating a test account on StateU.org

- Many schools offer infrastructure to their students and faculty to help you manage your own domain, subdomain, or WordPress instance. To simulate this experience, we've set up a test environment at stateu.org where you can follow along using a free, 30-day trial of a functional subdomain of stateu.org. You can also follow along on your own local or hosted install of WordPress. To begin, click the Get Started button. To simulate the single sign-on experience available on most campuses, you can sign in using your existing LinkedIn, Google, or Facebook account. Simply click the button for the system you want to sign in for, and then follow the prompts. Next, you'll be asked to choose the name for your subdomain on stateu.org. The name you choose will be your address on the Internet. It'll be what other people type in to find your site, so choose something that will best represent you on the public internet. I'm going to go ahead and use my last name for my subdomain, so my address would end up being mattia.stateu.org. Click the continue button, and the State U servers will check and make sure that that address is still available. It looks like my address is still available, so simply click the Register Now button. It may take a few seconds while your subdomain is set up. When the server is finished processing your account, you should be brought to a page that looks something like this. It's your cPanel, or your control panel for your subdomain. Before we move into installing WordPress, we should point out a few things about your stateu.org subdomain account. Your account is a fully-functional and live subdomain on the Internet for you to use as part of this training. If you check your email account, you'll notice that you should've just gotten an email from stateu.org with some other information about your account. For the next 30 days, anytime you want to access this account, simply go back to the stateu.org site and click on the same Get Started button. Choose the same log-in that you just used, and you should be brought right back to this page. Near the end of your 30 day trial, you will get another email from the stateu.org server asking you what you would like to do with your account. If you do nothing, then this account will simply expire, and all of your data will be deleted from the server. You will have the option to be able to back up your site and move it to your own school's infrastructure, or, to your own hosting service, or even a local install that supports WordPress.org sites. In the next movie, we'll begin using the Installatron application to install your own instance of WordPress.
