What is xAPI?

- [Instructor] In the before time, when e-learning was still young and new, we needed a standard for recording e-learning activity that would work across systems. This standard was created by the Advanced Distributed Learning Initiative and was called SCORM. SCORM was a way to record the state of enrollment or courses. So when you went to take a course, it was not started. Then you started it, it became incomplete, and then you completed it, and it became complete. And maybe it became passed, maybe it became failed along the way. The course also had to be launched from a learning management system. It had to be launched from a central system. And the content was limited to JavaScript. It had to be web-based, it had to be a web page. SCORM also suffered the problem of having been released initially in 2000. SCORM was updated in 2004 with the appropriately named SCORM 2004 but nothing new had come along since then. In 2010, at the Advanced Distributed Learning Initiative was once again…
