- Welcome to this week's Teacher Tech Tip. I'm Oliver Schinkten, and this week I want to share a website that can help teach students about the economy, financial terminology, and provides a creative way to create discussions around current events in your classroom. The name of the website is How the Market Works, at howthemarketworks.com. The website's completely free, and allows users to create a make-believe stock portfolio of publicly traded stocks. When you register for an account, you start out with a set amount, say $100,000 in virtual cash that you can use to practice trading stocks. So, why is this important? First of all, it provides a fun and competitive way to introduce students to the stock market and to financial literacy. The website includes real-time quotes, charts, analysis, and news, and can be a great way to help students learn about financial literacy.
