Research ethics
- Let's say you're developing a new evaluation tool for college courses and you've been given permission to use a course you're teaching to test it. You go through all the instrumentation, development, sampling, consent, implementation, but participation in the evaluation is low. If you can't get more students to complete the evaluation, you won't have a good sample for significant results. But, as the instructor, if you press the problem further, it could be seen as coercion or excess pressure. How do you respond? Ethical dilemmas in research aren't uncommon, but with a strong research proposal and a thoughtful approach, you'll be prepared to deal with any concerns that come up during your research.
