- [Instructor] Hi I'm Oliver Schinkten and thank you for joining me in this course, in which we'll discuss Internet safety for students. We're in the digital age, and over 3.5 billion people have access to the Internet worldwide. This is a number which continues to grow. For most people, the Internet is a critically important tool, which they use on a daily basis, whether on a computer, phone, or other device. We use the Internet to communicate, collaborate, conduct research, complete assignments, store information, shop, bank, and a ton of other reasons.
But for as much as we use the Internet, do we really understand it? In this course, we'll take a look at some of the threats that exist online and how we can avoid them. The goal of this course is to help you become a more informed user of the Internet so that you can protect your personal information, your privacy, your hardware, and your digital footprint. Although this course is directly targeted at students, I believe that anyone who uses the Internet can benefit from watching it. This course is not meant to provide legal advice and won't cover all of the threats that exist on the Internet, but hopefully it will help you to become more informed about how to stay safe while using the Internet.
Let's get started.
