- Helping your kids learn at home can be tough, especially if you are working from home at the same time. Now, I've been a teacher of one form or another for well over 20 years, and I still have no magic answer for how do I get my kid to do their homework. I do, however, have a whole bucket of strategies that have worked well and made this experience a whole lot easier. First off try, a list, a reasonable list. "We are going to spend six hours today learning" is not a list, it's a recipe for frustration. Here are our kids' lists for today. Now, of course, this took some guidance and practice, but once we establish the expectations, the resources available, and all the options, it goes pretty well.
