System demo for system admins: Web-based application, part 1

Now we're going to take a look at the home page from the perspective of a system administrator. Now as I mentioned previously, the home page is dynamic in nature and based upon the role that you have in the organization. So the home page for Anya Singh, at the top right there, looks different from Charles Richardson, who is a manager. any team members currently reporting to her. But she has system administration access So let's go ahead and do that now. So for that, I'm just going to navigate to the appropriate transaction. I'm going to use the action search bar at the top there just to type in some natural language there to -- oh, okay, I'm going to manage the home page quickly and navigate over to where that is configured in the system. Okay. So under Manage Home Page as you can see up here, we can see all of the sessions we currently have on the home page. To Do, My Team, News, My Info, and all the tiles listed underneath that section. Now over here we can also see where we can move them to if we need to move them to a different section. When they'll be active. Are they active for a certain amount of time, or at a certain point in time? Like for example only 30 days after I've started at the organization? Are they removable by the user? Now these are system administration decisions. To say a tile is always visible, and a user can't really remove them or delete them from their home page, for example, if they are important tiles. Then of course, also you can make some changes to a tile as well, and just go ahead and say I'll edit that or delete that tile if I don't need it any longer. Okay. What we can also do is just quickly take a look at some of the editing options when it comes to the sections. So the sections themselves can actually change too or the label of that section. And you can also of course can apply that to different translations. Currently that is English/US but you can set that to any translation that's activated in the system and retype that section name in the appropriate language. activate or deactivate any standard little tiles that we have available in there as well. So you have some, sorry, some roles that we have we have an HR Admin for employees." just for that specific group of employees. Going to cancel out of here, and move over into a section where we're going to create a new custom tile. For this specific example we are going to you have a fully-fledged HR system So I have named the tile Expenses System. let's quickly, let's go there and say Tile. cause we're going to choose the type to be either Static or Graphical and we want to have to a third-party system or a URL. So I'm just going to keep that as a Graphical tile. The rest of this here I just add some information as to what we will capture here. We will capture our expenses on that. And you can see the Tile Preview is updating with what I'm typing on the title there. The size of the tile can either be So I can just go ahead and say one-by-one or one-by-two. And then I can also add a little graphical image as well for that home page. to the end user. we need to decide how long will that tile actually appear on the home page. Will it always be there?` Will it only be there for a certain amount of time, between certain date ranges? Or will it be based upon basically my start date? It's saying, okay, thirty days after my start date this tile must automatically disappear from the home page. For this example I'm going to keep it on always, so all the users can see it all the time because it is an expense system and most employees will capture their expenses on there. Now when it comes to the tile target we can either choose to have a little pop-over on that tile or we can move the user into a different URL to an external system. So I can, I'm going to choose the URL option because we're creating a tile that's directing someone somewhere to a third-party system. And then of course we have to add the URL name there as well, and for this example I'm just going to choose to open this in a new window, or tab, once that person clicks on that link. When it comes to the assignments, When it comes to the assignments, we then have to decide where is that tile we then have to decide where is that tile going to live? In which section on the home page will it live? going to live? So it's automatically directing us So it's automatically directing us to the News section by default. to the News section by default. But I'm going to choose to put this in But I'm going to choose to put this in the My Info section, and that tile the My Info section, and that tile should appear in that section should appear in that section when we've complete our configuration. So we also have to decide for which group of people So we also have to decide for which group of people we'll assign this to. we'll assign this to. Now All Employees is the obvious one Now All Employees is the obvious one because it's the Expenses system. because it's the Expenses system. But we also have an option to use some of the But we also have an option to use some of the some of the other groupings that we've some of the other groupings that we've already set up in the system: already set up in the system: Payroll Administrators, New Hires for example. Payroll Administrators, New Hires for example. Or, with this link over here, Or, with this link over here, we can create a brand-new grouping of employees we can create a brand-new grouping of employees that might be applicable to only viewing that might be applicable to only viewing this specific tile. this specific tile. This is a very open tile for everyone else to use This is a very open tile for everyone else to use for All Employees, so I'm just going to choose for All Employees, so I'm just going to choose to click on Finish there. to click on Finish there. And just save that. And just save that. And hopefully at the bottom of the And hopefully at the bottom of the My Info section we now have My Info section we now have an Expenses system tile. an Expenses system tile. You can see I also created another one You can see I also created another one just as an example there to show you where you choose to have the active date 30 days before the start date of a person, or 30 days after the start date of a person, just to show you what that looks like just to show you what that looks like in a difference between the different tiles on that specific section of the home page. on that specific section of the home page. Now hopefully that will appear on the home page Now hopefully that will appear on the home page when I click on Save at the bottom here, so I'm just saving where that tile appears on the home page. so I'm just saving where that tile appears on the home page. And if I now want to go ahead and just quickly test what it looks like, and just quickly test what it looks like, I can navigate over to the home page via a link at the top of the screen, and hopefully my new Expenses tile will appear and hopefully my new Expenses tile will appear over there. So you can see the tile is appearing So you can see the tile is appearing in the My Info section, and if I click on the Expenses tile itself it opens up this tracking software that we sometimes use within the organization. So it's a nice way just to link to that external third-party system. to that external third-party system. Okay. So that is the home page So that is the home page from the perspective of the system administrator.
