- [Instructor] Hi, so now that you've been through the overview of S/4 Finance overall in this lesson we're now going to go into the general ledger itself in detail. So we're going to recognize the scope and function of the General Ledger component often called FI and the Management accounting or controlling component called CO. So what we intend to cover here are understanding the common tasks that are preformed in FI and CO leveraging the new S/4 Universal Journal and we're also going to identify the various integration points of financial accounting with other modules in SAP. So just one note on the different versions of SAP, this course is based on SAP S/4 HANA Finance but if we compare this to the older SAP R/3 or the slightly newer SAP ECC versions the main difference for finance users to note is that the older versions in R/3 use what was called the classic general ledger or classic GL when you are in SAP ECC you have the option to use what SAP called the New GL.
