Design technologist Colin McCrone gives a tutorial in Dynamo Studio for Autodesk Revit for how to subdivide the hexagonal and pentagonal faces of a buckyball—or a geodesic dome—into triangles.
- [Instructor] To solve this challenge,…we'll need to find the triangular panels…that we can subdivide the original pentagonal…and hexagonal faces of a bucky ball in two…in order to make the overall form more spherical.…We should take this form and make it look…a little bit more like the Epcot Center at Disney World.…We can start with a node from Clockwork that says…Buckyball.ByOriginAndRadius.…We'll notice that it actually gives us the points…for the hexagons and the pentagons.…Using this information,…we can start to find the center point of each face.…Let's first join the list,…List.Join,…of the hexagonal points…and the pentagonal points.…
This will give us a stacked list.…Each sublist corresponds to a face.…We can also use a node from Clockwork called…Point.Average.…The Point.Average will take a set of points…and then average them all together.…The result is in our case…the perfect center point of each face.…That's only because these are perfectly regular polygons.…Their vertices are spread evenly around the circle.…
